Anathemas
are said to condemn former Catholics to the torments of everlasting hell unless
they do penance and return home to Rome. They also condemn current Catholics
who do not believe every dogma of their church.

Among the over 100 condemnations Rome issues is the one which condemns those who dare to say they have assurance of salvation.

From Canon 16 of the Sixth Session of Trent we read:
|
Among the over 100 condemnations Rome issues is the one which condemns those who dare to say their debt is so blotted out that no punishment remains. It is obligatory for all Catholics to accept and believe the existence of purgatory under the threat of anathema:
|
“If anyone says that after the reception of the grace of justification the guilt is so remitted and the debt of eternal punishment so blotted out to every repentant sinner, that no debt of temporal punishment remains to be discharged either in this world or in purgatory before the gates of heaven can be opened, let him be anathema” (Council of Trent, Cannon 30).
In other words... Every repentant sinner is anathema (condemned) who says “Christ has paid the full debt for my sins taking my punishment in full on the cross and I am free from the penalty of sin”. But this is exactly what Christ came to accomplish by His death on the cross. The Word of God no doubt teaches that sinners deserve punishment, but…why would the Lord Jesus Himself assure His followers that faith in Him frees them from judgment and perishing? "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. (John 5:24 NKJV). "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16 |
Among the over 100 condemnations Rome issues is the one which condemns those who dare to say the commandments are impossible to keep.
|
If any one saith, that the commandments of God are, even for one that is justified and constituted in grace, impossible to keep; let him be anathema.
|
Dear Catholic friend, how could such condemnations be issued when the Holy Scriptures affirm them to be false? |
"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus..." Romans 8:1 NKJV
