Daily Press article (12-10-08): Extremism Is No Virtue
A citizen speaks out against displaying graphic photos in Victorville, CA.
On Dec. 6, my morning of shopping and getting into the Christmas spirit with my grandaughter and her friend was upset and nearly ruined. As we traveled happily along, laughing and talking, we had to stop at the red
light at Hesperia road and BearValley. Conversation suddenly ended and cries of terror filled my car as the girls, both 11 years old, and I, were confronted with the most graphic, sad, and horrible gigantic posters of bloody, aborted or partially aborted fetuses. They were being displayed by a group on the Victorville side of the street and since we were stopped there was no escape.
I am and always have been a pro-life person and I understand everyone’s right to demonstrate, have done my share as well. But to display those posters and force innocent passersby to view the horror depicted there is beyond anyone’s right. I am sure the majority of people stopped there on that day had the same reaction
as we did. The female passenger in the car next to us covered her eyes and the people in the car behind me were talking and jesturing wildly toward the display. My granddaughter was in tears before we could get away and her little friend, who has Downs Syndrome and is very perceptive and emotionally impacted by things like that, cried until I got her home. Bring awareness about issues concerning our society today all you like, but be aware of the surroundings and the fact that not everyone needs your brand of “education”. Printed signs would have gotten the message across. The posters were unnecessary and I was as disgusted by this display as I am by any other act of extremism.

A Pro-Life Response to Veronica Coleman and the Daily Press Readers in Victorville CA.
Dear Editor S. Williams,
On 12-10-08, you printed the comments of Veronica Coleman in a letter entitled Extremism is no virtue.
My name is Steven and I am stepping forward to accept responsibility for coordinating the display of graphic photos on the corner of Bear Valley and Hesperia Rd. I appreciate your willingness to print Ms. Coleman's comments regarding our graphic photos. I pray you will give an equal opportunity for my response.
Like Ms. Coleman, I am disgusted when I view a photo of a baby killed by legal abortion.
My questions to Ms. Coleman and others who share her opinion are these:
Is it more disgusting to visually educate people about abortion than for abortionists to perform abortions?
Are you willing to call the abortionist’s act of torturing a baby to death extremism?
Many say they are Pro-Life, and then criticize those exposing it instead of criticizing the abortionists. Our photos are disgusting because they depict an act of violence that kills a baby. Approximately 3,600 babies were killed on the Saturday that Ms. Coleman was getting into the Christmas spirit. As the cries of terror filled Ms. Coleman’s car on December 6, about 3600 babies were denied the right to cry at all. These babies will have no Christmas and no grandmother to take them shopping. We are out here today to wake up a country that is killing its unborn children at the rate of 1 out of every 3 conceived.
The U.S. Supreme Court, in the 1973 companion cases of Roe vs. Wade and Doe vs. Bolton gave women the right to abort during all nine months of pregnancy. Since 1973, the death toll has passed 50 million in America…..more than all American wars combined.
We target adults and not children with our photos. Children are exposed to graphic pictures all the time on TV, movies, magazines, etc. We have seen parents bring their children over to view our display and their children were not traumatized but educated. The Down’s syndrome child who shed tears after viewing our photos proved to have a functioning conscience and a soft heart which is precious in the sight of God.
Our goal is not only to expose abortion. Anyone who has had an abortion and has a godly sorrow for it, can find forgiveness at the cross of Christ.
Genuinely,
Steven
